What about a 12g295 head skimmed with unleaded valve inserts, twin hs2 carbs, maniflow/rc40 exhaust, recurved dizzy and a kent 500 camshaft to be authentic. Should make a very nice road engine. IMO.
I'm in the process of collecting parts for a 998 turbo build for my car ATM. Nothing crazy, just a small turbo for road use. ![]()

Because that will be around 60bhp
Send the same on a 1275 and you can get 80bhp haha

IMO what's needed to make the best of a 998 is a decent head and in these parts, for what you'd pay for a half decent head, you can pick up a 1275 for.
And that's before we get in to Camshafts, Carbs, Exhausts and Sesame Seed Buns!

To the OP. Buy that car for £300, take all the decent bits off then chuck the shell on eBay.
A 1275 with a decent head, cam and carb well built and set up will be loads of fun.

I wonder, those who complain about engine swaps saying the A-series is the identity of the mini and without it, its no longer a mini... A lot of the Jap modification scene chops and swaps engines all over the place... would a 200sx with a skyline engine no longer be viewed as a 200sx then?

I think the mini scene (I hate that phrase) is interesting due to people putting their own stamp on things.
I love the concourse limited edition and old stuff, but I wouldn't want every single car at a show or L2B to be original. It gives it all a bit of spice
