I am thinking about converting my '78 Clubman automatic to manual. Unfortunately I am not skilled enough to do the work myself.

Any ideas how much it would cost to do? I know I will need to source an engine but just after a ball park figure.

Secondly does anyone have any recommendations for people/garages in North East England who would do the work.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

An engine swap isn't difficult to do on a mini.

Are you wanting a 998 or 1275?

Then you need pedal box, clutch master cylinder, gear linkage, adapter plates for your subframe.

What's your auto engine like condition wise? If it's good you will get reasonable money for i!

It is a 998cc decent condition 49,000 miles on.

I don't mind which size, just want a decent reliable engine that in time can be worked on and improved.

I have kept the car automatic in order to keep it original, as I bought it from a lady who had it from new. It has all the history and the car is solid all be it some age related scuffs and the wings have been resprayed and don't quite match. MOT until April.

As I wanted a changed and a manual decided to sell so put her on eBay, starting bid £2500, which looking around is very cheap for a car with the history and provenance. Despite 202 watchers and 3000 views of the advert no bids.

Therefore people clearly aren't bothered too much about originality and the feedback I have is they were put off by the auto box.

Hence why weighing up options as not willing to sell for less, as complete rot boxes with no history are going for more.

Cheers for help.

If only you were nearer, would offer a straight swop for my manual cooper. I want to go the unheard of way manual to an auto! :o

you could do the swap yourself over a weekend...................but make sure the engine your swaping for is a good unit and before you put it in I would swap the water pump and swap the head gasket,
