I am just looking for some advice on the removal of underseal, the underseal is the thick tar like stuff and I cant get it off, if I use a grinding wheel the stuff just heats up and spreads then dries again, if I use sand paper it just clogs it all up and doesn't remove it, if I heat it up it just bubbles then dries soft again, if I try to heat it and scrape it comes of a little bit but still leaves lots of it on the metal! its awful stuff! I have no idea what it is, any ideas would be much appreciated!

Probably heat and scrape followed by a twisted wire cup in a grinder. Horrible long winded job, dont envy you at all

There is no quick way to remove it.

Soften scrape, soften scrape and repeat. The residue can be removed with thinners.

Awful messy job

Do you know what the stuff acctually is? I have no idea why something like this would be sold!!!!
All of the metal rusts underneath anyway with it on!

It's bitumen based i think?

I have applied it in the past and it's thick like tar and gets everywhere.

I was mis-advised and only 14 at the time so i didn't know any better. I'd never use it  again

get some solvent based paint stripper, not nitromors, and hammer it with it and let it dry. do that a couple of times and you will be able to flake the majority of it off in one go.

thanks for that, think i may have to go down that road because it took me 6 hours just to do half a front subframe! the underneath is going to kill me at this rate haha!
