Best advice I would give is "don't do it".

The flip fronts are nor properly engineered in terms of safety, no proper stress analysis has ever been done and the reinforcings are just an engineering 'guess'.

The Mini was designed as a monocoque structure with the loads being taken by the entire structure.

I dread to think the impact on structural integrity when the few spot welds that hold the wings on are removed. And the folded lip that secures the A panels.

Okay I was going to keep the metal front end just make it removable

It is the integration of the steel front end by its being welded on which gives the strength. The body-shell is one complete load carrying structure, just as an aircraft is. It is different with a racing car where a full roll cage of approved type is fitted which more than replaces the removed structure, plus the fact that a racing carries with it a risk which is deemed acceptable for competitors.

A road car needs the full integrity of the monocoque as originally designed, all welded into one complete structure.

Disregarding the neigh sayers here is some info for you. It can be do in a number of ways and I have seen a very nicely done one in Germany. And you may have heard how tough the German TüV is.

Right one piece front ends are a pain in the butt. Worse acces if a flip front and gets damaged is a removable.

But a removable allows great acces.

So a two part is ideal. Separate bonnet to allow everyday access.

If you are going to do a one piece front out of metal remember to add metal for the gaps or you will end up with a lopsided front.

Think on as to how and why.
