Hi Guys

I would just like some advice on what you would do in my situation.  I have a mid spec 1380 at the moment thats been feeling down on power, we have come to the conclusion that is got a piston ring/bore issue after only 2500ish miles, lower compression on cylinder 3 that rises with a teaspoon on oil down the bore and a cylinder leakage test confirms this with air coming from the dipstick/engine breathers. Also once running with the crankcase breather open you can feel the air pressure about 12" above the breather!. its fair to say this lump is past it.

Now, i'm looking into finding a fresh block and reboring it to 1293 or 1310.  If i did this would my crankshaft/rods and flywheel that have been balanced from my current engine still be suitable for this new engine, i know i should be able to swap my camshaft into the new engine but what about the duplex timing gear/chain will this still be ok?

Anything else i may have overlooked?

Chris

hmmm,

I would strip it and get a bore guage it to check for bore wear, and check piston to bore clearance, if the bore looks ok, then just get it honed and re ring,

if not then maybe look at geting it sleeved back down to standard or 1293,

failing that, yes use a fresh block and put your crank and rods  and other bits into it, the only problem parts are the dizzy as these are A or A+ specific.

oh and ALWAYS use a minispares EVO pump.

Thanks for the reply i dont know much about this side of things, with a light down the plug hole you can still see honing marks on the bores but the surface is polished looking, on the cylinder with the worst compression its nearly mirror like in places

Don't write it off yet till you have had it measure up. Its likely been bored washed. This could be a simple fix of re honed and new rings if the engine was a fresh build. The real issue for you is how to avoid this when you run it again.

It's a block out and off to the machine shop.
