Carb Trouble

Hi can anyone help. I am having trouble with my Mini Fan, it wont tick over and it is using a lot of petrol, but if I disconnect the breaver from the back of the engine it runs fine, I have cleaned the pipe out and refitted it DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? Cheers

By disconnecting the breather pipe your altering the mixture, I would carry out a full engine tune and adjust the mixture last and when warm and see what the engine tune throws up as to the fault

Dave - if you have an older engine then the correct oil filler cap should have a 1/8 hole in the underside, this allows some air to be drawn through the engine and reduce condensation in the rocker box.

 

Some replacement filler caps don't have this hole, others have a much larger hole. Would be worth checking to see what you have fitted.

 

And with some of the older engines if you don't have the oil filler cap properly tightened then they won't idle properly...

O yes I remember now my 1965 Cooper S it would cough and die if you removed the oil filler cap
