Hallo!

I bought some KN Mercury's a while back and they had camac tyres on. Literally like new and never been used. Although I couldn't work out when when they were made.

Ill post the numbers below and hopefully someone can help and tell me if they are safe to use.

Or if they have an value at all. Already bought some yoko A008's but i can always take them back...

DOT F465    138<

cheers :)

(completely unrelated to the guy that just posted something about selling camacs or something haha)

Do the right thing and ditch the ditch finders.

Regardless of the type of tyre, if the tyre pre-dates the date marking introduction on tyres, then they really aren't worth using.

Put the yokos on. (imo)

I reckon those tyres are about 15 years old minimum. From a safety point of view they'd go straight in the bin. Remember a tyre is your only point of contact with the road surface - always buy the best you can afford.

Camacs were nasty hard-wearing things with no grip when they were new. I hated them when I have some on my 1000 in the early 90s.

What I thought cheers, just making sure I wasn't going to chuck decent tyres by accident haha

I'd agree. I've just ditched the nasty cracked Camacs on mine for a new set of Yokos. The difference is like night and day.

Most tyres have a shelf life of 5 years and a lot of that does depend on where and how they are stored.

Usually tyres are stamped with a date stamp in a oval, for example 0710 would be week 7 2010

Today I fitted two old steelies to the back of my mini while I get my new tyres fitted to the existing rims. These steelies have old 'dictator' tyres fitted. It was raining and miserable all day so the roads were suitably greasy. Going round a roundabout at a leisurely pace I was able to get a lot of lift off oversteer which was good fun. But they are in no way safe so I wouldn't recommend fitting old tyres such as these.

Also, you never know. There are probably people out there who would fit your tyres for shows or something like that so don't chuck them. Give them away or sell them.

The date stamps are usually 4 digit though and in a oval, but they are Camac after all lol
