hello all!

I am undertaking the project of my 1991 rover mini city. unfortunately shes a little rusty, so the body and engine are having an overhaul!

i have bought a 1275 A+ engine as its currently running a 998. this is getting my first dose of attention while i sort out the rest of the workshop ready for welding the body

SO HERE IS MY FIRST QUESTION!... ( drum roll)...

i plan to use twin HS2 carbs and a fast road camshaft, however, since im getting the block re-bored to its next size ( piece of mind rather than performance) do i use high compression pistons or standard compression? the plan is to oversize the valves and port and polish the head also... but advice is needed on what pistons to use?

i look forward to your replies!

Are you talking about work on the 1275? If the block is not worn then personally I would reuse as it is.

Check what pistons you currently have fitted, head can be skimmed to raise CR if needed.

What cam are you planning to use?

You need to build the engine to the compression ratio you wish to achieve.

yes work on the 1275 A+ :)

there is some minor scratching on the cylinder walls so im just going for a rebore.

at the moment it has dished pistons it in, the bloke i bought it off claimed the block was standard with no modifications yet

as for the cam im planning to use one from mini sport, i know its not a kent cam or anything too fancy but i know they are to a good standard and work well

the specs are: Application:    Fast Road

Power Band:    2000-6500 rpm
Valve Lift:    0.318 "
Duration:    252°
Timing:     16/56  51/21
Valve Clearances:    Inlet - 0.015 "     Exhaust - 0.015 "
Lift (TDC):    110°

I would at least use a kent 266 the modern version of the MG Metro cam, then you will have a nice road engine if the Heads done right, the secret to any power in a A Series always comes back to a good with good CFM, put what cam you like in its the head which allows the air flow into the combustion chambers
