Hello,

Wondering what carb needle to go with, been suggested a BBW,here is the spec for the engine and carb.

Hif 44
Engine:mg metro 1275 +40 (1310)
Omega 6.5cc dished pistons
276 cam
1.5 roller rockers
Ported and flowed mg metro big valve head
(will have a standard dizzy to start but will be upgraded to a aldon yellow)

Think that is everything listed that would affect the needle size, can supply more info if needed.

Cheers.

Needle requirement will be different if youre using a stadard air box or a cone filter or even better a filter with a stub stack inside

BBW + aldon yellow can even work but to get the most out of it your best bet is investing money on a rolling road session with you standard dizzy to get the advance curve tuned correctly and to have a custom needle reprofiled.

H&H ignitions could reprofile you distributor for about £40 they have done a couple for me on customers cars 01384 261500

You'll struggle to find a Rolling Road that can reprofile the actual curve, and the cost on the day would be massive.

Yeah im going to get a rolling road done where a needle can be filed down, but for first start what do you recommend? Just so it isn't too lean or rich for that matter

The low down on these standard SU profiles is that once you set the right idle, they end up too rich at mid range and too lean at tops, probably a consequence of modern fuels?

I think BBW can be the best choice for starting, can be a personal preference but imho it can be much better than profiling a BDL needle since with a BBW you have more meat to play with when adjusting the cruising speed stations

Oh alright, so you send off a standard dizzy and they put weights in it to get the curve you want?

Yes you include the spec of your engine Cam,C.Ratio, Head and they are like Aldon who have done so many they have a list of what works, Aldon has the biggest list of curves for dare I say every spec done on their rolling road over the years, H&H will yes select the weights and set the maximum advance and select the primary and secondary spring rates.
