FOR SALE: ROBIN HOOD 2B KIT CAR PROJECT £1200 ono

This car has now been stood in the garage collecting dust for far too long now so needs to go to a new home where it can be assembled and used by someone rather than just collecting dust.

The car was bought from a friend a while back with all the good intentions of completing it and putting it on the road, however as most things I have more projects than sense and no time to do them so this one is up for grabs.

The car has a 2000cc Pinto engine in (was running before fitted to the car but needs wiring sorted to start with the keys)

I have the current V5 from the donor vehicle (FORD SIERRA) and also the chassis plate and original sales reciept from Robin Hood Engineering for the Kit Car chassis.

Other documentation to go with the car includes a sales brochure, build DVD's and good old VHS's to give full instruction on the build of the car from start to finish and a FORD Sierra Haynes Manual.

The car itself is to a reasonable stage of completeness having the engine fitted and alot of the running gear also assembled, the car is rolling and stopping, bucket seats and harnesses are only put into place but fixing lugs, holes and bolts are present.
The stainless side panels still have most of the protection covering them but the paintwork around the car is a bit tatty.

I have loads of boxes of bits to go with the car from the original donor car which are not necessarily needed but are good to have.

There is the correct Robin Hood windscreen and surround along with the wiper motor and mechanism, radiator, grille, the pepper pot alloy spare wheel etc etc the list could go on.

Also included is BRAND NEW headlights and front indicators and a brand new pinto alternator as the one currently fitted is not an original part.

The best bet is to contact me to arrange a viewing for yourself to come and have a look around the vehicle. We can arrange a local delivery but contact first. I am also happy for you to arrange your own transportation or I can try to arrange delivery throughout the UK just ask for a price. I would need the car to be paid in full first before the vehicle is taken.

I would prefer cash on collection.

You clearly haven't watched them. They are good for a laugh though. Not sure if it made it through to the DVD's but the bit on the VHS tapes where he bops the dog on the nose to stop it bothering him whilst he's demonstrating part of the build made me spit my coffee out laughing. I met that dog in the flesh and you have to give him credit for bravery.

OK - now to more serious stuff. It's a later 2B with wishbones - that's important and makes it more desireable so mention it in any other adverts you might have elsewhere.

"like a Westfield" - chalk and cheese.

The 2B is bigger and heavier which makes it a better cruiser as it'll soak up lumps and bumps in the road. It won't handle as well as a Westfield or Caterham but it'll wipe the floor with any hot-hatch you care to mention. It's also far roomier inside for those of the larger girth (or fat people like me).

The Pinto won't make it as fast as some of the other sevens but the grunt will make this driftable at 20mph - If you've overcooked it at those speeds the chances of serious damage to yourself or others are relatively minor. The lighter Sevens with more revvy engines don't have the torque to do that and they need so much momentum to unstick them that if you've mis-calculated......well the laws of physics aren't going to be on your side.

Prospective buyers make no mistake though - there's a LOT of work still required to get it through IVA and on the road. On the plus side- the owners club is active, friendly, know them inside out and have between them put bucket-loads of them through SVA (IVA is just tweaks on top of the old SVA) so getting it there is just a case of plugging away and asking questions (and looking at other cars and providing copious amounts of tea and biscuits when they descend on you to "help").

I built one of these years ago. The guy who runs the company is weird and then some. Mine was the sliding pillar early type which was a rubbish design, the wishbone setup is a million times better. The vids are funnier than an 80s sitcom. For £1200 it's a very cheap way to get into the kitcar game. Good luck with the sale!

Yep I have built one also - mine was the cortina based kit so quite early.

Good buy for someone with the intensions of getting the IVA, I presume this kit is passable with correct radius etc?

Robin Hood Engineering who supplied this kit are no longer in existence - well sort of.

Richard Stewart retired and sold it as a going concern (yes he's a bit of a character - but generally considered a good egg). There were some problems with subsequent owners and the final iteration of Robin Hood was closed under a cloud. I don't know all the details but from what I've been able to surmise in the end there were two people running/owning it and one of them did some naughty financial stuff to customers and his partner. Now there is Great British Sportscars who got the rights, moulds, jigs and patterns out of the mess. They still produce similar cars although a bit more upmarket and they do make and sell parts for the earlier cars.

I don't think there should be any technical dramas with getting this car through IVA - there are a couple of little things I can spot on the photos that would need to be altered but nothing that you probably wouldn't want to revisit anyway. The majority of things that trip people up are tricksy things rather than big issues. The owners club will usually have someone local who can turn up prior to the test and give an informal look over it to spot any of the big obvious areas that might not pass.

There are some odd rules around proving the amateur build status and who built it if the person that presents it for test isn't the person that originally bought the kit. You want amateur build status as that lets you bypass some requirements. The way around it that I've heard of is to strip the car down again and photograph it as it goes back together with you in your garage. It's best to check with the owners club on this as they'll have current knowledge on the rules and regs.

For info I've had two. A Cortina based S7 and a 2B similar to this (but one of the very first batch with sliding pillar suspension and a couple of other differences to the subsequent cars).
