Since buying an LMS011 inertia type starter motor with the intention of using an SH engineering featherweight flywheel, they have changed their ring gear to pre engaged type.

Does anyone have a pre-engaged/aftermarket ring gear type starter handy they could check the tooth count on the pinion for, as I would like to change the pinion to suit the revised ring gear.

Also a side on shot too to make sure the mounting plate is the same would be beneficial

Thanks

James

I have used a couple of these before and they are 11 teeth pinion for the pre-engaged ring gear with 129 teeth http://www.autoelect...40/category/241

Rich, that is the pre-engaged type you have. Please could you double check the pinion is 11 teeth, if possible even a measurement at full extension of the pinion to the starter body too.

Those powerlite ones look similar to the wosp ones.

Thanks

James

It's 30 mm full extension and it has 9 pins.

? 9 tooth is normally for the inertial ring gear of 107 teeth

Measuring things, for some reason despite having an ultralight pre-verto flywheel the inertia type starter doesn't seem to engage fully, only about 7mm. so clearly require one for the appropriate ring gear location.

Time to flog it and buy the correct starter motor, to save the cost of adapting it.
