Checked the leads and sure enough they are crap so they will be getting changed, also had a good look at the dizzy again not very good points are crap and pitted and worn so again will need replacing, having a quick look online you can change it to electronic ignition so couple of questions

Anyone done this is, is it worth it?

Please do not take the following comments the wrong way, they are not meant to sound negative.

This is a topic that comes up several times each month.  Try the search feature at the top, right of this page to look for previous discussions on the subject.  You can also use Google with keyword phrases like "theminiforum electronic ignition".  There are many threads to review.

Suffice it to say that most people are happy with the conversion and the threads you will uncover in your search will discuss the different brands.  KernowCooper has a couple of articles in the FAQ section that will walk you through the installation process.

Hi,

As Doug says, use the search feature, you'll get loads of advice.

It's funny really, many years ago points and condenser equipped cars used to run for many thousands of miles without problems. Recently the points and condensers available seem to be of an inferior quality and people generally change over to electronic ignition.

And because of the poor quality of these parts, electronic ignition offers several benefits including easier starting, better fuel economy and keeps the car "in-tune" as once set-up, a good electronic system will keep the ignition timing spot-on for a very long time!

There are several systems to choose from, but all do the same job.

Cheers, Steve.

Add a new rotor arm and dizzy cap to the new parts list unless they are very new. But the leccy module is very easy to fit and I have had no issues in 2 years of using one!
