Hey,

I've seen a few posts on this subject but didn't see an answer to my particular problem so was hoping for some expert advice.

I have a 1988 Mini Designer that's had a 1275 Mayfair engine dropped in it.

A few months back, i noticed an oil leak from the drivers side inner drive shaft.

The father in-law and I purchased the new oil seal and replaced it (after much effort and swearing trying to remove the pot...)

We thought job done! BUT 200 miles or so later, a plume of smoke driving down the motorway occurred... On further inspection, it appears the oil leak remains...

Could there be an underlying problem that's causing the leak to happen here or simply a poor job the first time around?

Cheers

Anth

The seal only seals if the joint is properly supported. It's quite likely that the bush in the cover has worn to the extent that no mater how good the seal is, it'll leak...

Way to check, get hold of the pot and move it up and down...  if you can with any degree of distance then the bush is worn...  Rebushing a cover is not something you can do easily at home, unless you have a machine shop.
