I had one for years and years, it was a good place to keep my cigarette lighter socket! However I've removed it recently and the car is so much better to drive now!
Try one with if you can.

We have a centre console on the cabriolet and I have got one to fit on the cooper, not had any problems with driving with the one on the cabriolet, yes it is close to the clutch peddle but not restrictive when driving. It's a personal choice but I think it finishes the interior nicely

We had one in the ritz when we bought it and was pretty much the first thing to come out. Personally I think they look s***, make the interior feel small and gets in the way.

For years I wanted one, even designed my own. Prefer without.

I built one. Fitted it and had it for about 2 years, now I've taken it out and it feels a lot less restricted inside!

Like they say restrictive, if not in real terms, at least visually.
Unless you have a load of kit you need to mount, I wouldnt

I had one for a couple of years. I didn't mind it whilst I had it fitted, but it had to come out when my heater matrix leaked one day and I found that I much preferred the car without it. As others have said, they are a bit restrictive in terms of leg room and personally I think they spoil the simple uncluttered look of the classic mini interior. Plus much like door card pockets, they're just another place to fill your car with crap that you don't really need. (So I got rid of those too).

I'd say don't bother personally.

Interior is obviously a personal thing. I have had all variants including full dash (like you are considering) /autoplas /later 3 clock binacle (rhs)/ early 2clock (rhs) and single 3 clock centre and far and away the best one for me from a driving charm is the single 3 centre clock with a pod for the Rev counter.

without a top rail pad, and a simple 3 clock I feel like there's an airyness and ton of space in the cab area I have never got from any other variant.

Only one opinion of course

I've had a custom consoles one. Which look nice and found do the job. But I found they get in the way of your feet. I've also used an 1100 special one. Which I would have again

I had one out of an old Datsun 1200, it was like a small tray in front of gear lever and a turn up at front. Worked well and not intrusive.
