I am thinking about fitting some speakers under my rear seat. I do nit want the speakers on show. I have managed to hide the ones on the parcel shelf and fitted some under the dash, yeah the sound is not optimal but works for me.

I dont fancy the standard speaker board, i think they look too 'after market'. I did think about one of the stealth boards from optimse but postage is too expensive due to the dimensions. Sure I could make a stealth board.

But that got me thinking what else could be used/integrated.

thus far I have thought about:

- retro hifi speakers, with new car audio speaker internals.

- jeep style jerry cans

- wicker baskets.

I am not sold on any of them

I thought I would try to tap into the collective brain of TMF for additional ideas.

Make up a standard style speaker board for under the seat but recess the speakers into it. You can then wrap it in acoustic carpet and it will just look like a black panel.

If you want stealth a decent set of headphones will hide everything lol

If not could you not make a speaker as mentioned but make it slightly set back under the rear bench
I always found that the speaker boards looked awful just bolted to front lip

To improve what's already there (you have four already, correct?) fit an active underseal woofer (most makes do one)

If you just fit two more speakers (making six if I get what your saying?) could make a bit of a messy sound. Adding the woofer takes some of the strain from your full-page speakers, so will sound better

very true! you could actually end up with a worse sound as different speakers will work AGAINST eachother rather than with so could end up cancelling each other out!

most under seat subs come with a crossover, then the sub can be set to do the lower notes and the full range/mid high speakers set to do just that, mid and high notes.

I rate the underseat sub very highly. I have one in my other car- space is very limited- I tried putting clarion 3-way speakers in which improved things from standard; fitting the sub took it to another level. The min will be getting one next

If you go for the speaker board set back under the seat, how about making up a frame that bolts to the front lip and covering it with some vintage looking speaker grill cloth? Guitar parts places like that one sell all sorts of different types for guitar amps / speaker cabs, and these types of grill cloths were used on hi-fi speaker cabinets thru the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Really impressed with the Pioneer! Got it all sorted today, bit of playing with crossovers and EQ and all good!

I'm sure it would be great under a front seat or under the back seats (assuming it would fit there?) in a mini. Mine is in an MR2 roadster, under the dashboard (there's a space under the dash, seemingly made for it!) and sounds great.

Really recommended if you're short of space and/or time. It's three wires (plus RCAs to the headunit) and anywhere you could fit a pack of printer paper in your car, you could fit this!
