Hi all.
I'm about to collect a 1990 mini city and was wondering if it is eligible for the traditional black metal license plate?
Currently has the standard plastic ones but I prefer metal plates
Any info is really appreciated.
Thanks

Only cars from the 1972 era & before are legally able to use the black background number plates.

So a 1990 definitely won't be eligible.

You will see some people using them on later cars at their own risk, or just show plates.

You may be able to get metal yellow/white number plates from one of the specialists.

I think the black and silver plates suit all minis of any age, they just look right. Its a pity if you own a post 72 car

Take a look through this previous thread on the subject. If you're considering fitting black & silver plates to your mini illegally, then please read through the various issues raised with regard to legal, safety & insurance implications first. Similarly those points made about the so called legal pressed yellow & black metal plates.
