Hello,

I have a straight cut clos ratio gearbox, but after rebuilt with oter casing I can not select first, third and reverse gear.

Wel second and fourth, even when the engine is running

When the engine is off, I rolled the car with low speed and when I try to select first gear it's sliding to the teeth. Its looks like of I cannot move another 3-4mm to select the full gear.

It's a lot of work to have a look in the gearbox, have anybody an idea?

Thanks a lot!

I'd be tempted to say it's the gear change mechanism rather than the gearbox...

If it had been 2nd, 4th and reverse you could not select then because they are all movement in the same direction, then that could be the gearbox.

Remove the gear selector from the rod on the gearbox and try and select all gears from there...

if you can select while the engine is off then and not when it's running, that's likely to be the clutch.

Thanks for your reply .

I have now the gear linkage off and have it in first gear! But the last 6mm (approximately) it needs to hit it a little with a big hammer. It's not possible to push the selector in by hand.

Now I'm trying as much as possible movements, hopefully it will be smoother.

What can be the problem, somthing wrong with the gears selector hubs?

Thanks a lot :)

First and third gear is hard to select, its need a little touch frome a hammer. The reverse is fully blocked :(

Rod Shift Box?

Did you refit the Interlock sleeve?   That's the short steel tube that's under the RH Diff side cover, that the ball and spring go in to.

Yes its a rod shift box.

Yet i connected the linkage again and I can select first and third gear :D!

only reverse is now a problem. It look like it will not fit to the other gearhub.

Yes I replaced that shaft incl the ball and spring.

Update:

I have removed the engine out of the car, split the gearbox from the engine and found out that the reverse gear is hitting the primary gears.

Did the gearbox case have the matching diff cap, ie, not one from another gearbox?

I always check as so many have been mixed and coff coff matched these days.
