Hi.
1999 MPI Mini. Green or Orange radiator fluid? I've read that some people use green and have read others using orange. Going to be doing a flush soon, and would like to know which is best? Unfortunately I've already bought green, was that a mistake? Thanks in advance.

I would tend to say neither - blue is what you want!   You basically want good old ethylene glycol based anti-freeze for an old car like a mini, which in my experience is always a blue colour.  As far as I can tell from a bit of googling though, green is the new blue and should be ethylene glycol. Stay away from the orange, which is OAT - Organic Acid Technology - that isn't really mini friendly. Might not cause an issue with the engine or head, but not so good for Radiators or heater matrix, it is not compatible with old style radiators.

What is in there just now? in any case I would give it all a good flushing through and use Blue (or green if you can establish it is ethylene glycol) coolant, either pre-mixed or a 50/50 mix with water.

Thanks for the quick answer. I honestly have no idea whats in there, looks nasty, that's why i'm going for a flush. I'm assuming water was mixed in there, as it has a rusty look to it.

Make sure you flush it well, different coolant types can react with each other. Then use blue 😀

50:50 BLUE Glysantin which is the best and reduces corrosion to a minimum - als use it in summer!

WWhen flushing open the heater. I use after emptying the cooling system just water and add tablets we use for decalcination of the coffee machine.

Let it stay overnight, then get rid of it and flush the cooling system thoroughly..
