I am unable to establish communication using an ACR2 code reader.

1998 Jap Spec Mini SPi with 16 pin obd connector

ACR2 code reader

Rover 3 30350800 pod

OBD lead with black plug (used on MPi minis, not sure of the part number)

I've read on the forum of modifications being done to the white plug obd lead.

I have tested the lead with a multimeter, and only 5 pins are in use.

I do not have access to another mini to verify whether the lead is faulty.

The code reader works fine on another SPi mini which uses the 3 pin lead.

Does anyone know the pin out on the lead, as well as the connector?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Forget the issue with the white lead 30214000 this is to do with chassis earth and system earth.
The lead you have if its not the ISO (with the box in the middle) will be the Universal OBD lead 30212400.
Lack of comms on MPi is quite common, it's usually the car socket.
Also make sure you have the ignition on, MPi power the socket for some time after switching off. This means reader works when ignition is off, but comms don't.....

I'll check my book for the pin out

Hope this helps remember I am showing the ends of the lead so the car socket is reversed.

Turns out the ecu does not actually support obd2 from what I have read - apparently rover used the port for a number of years before switching to obd2 complenint ecus - you will need a sykes pickevent reader and a the right adapter pod I believe

Correct its isn't OBD or EOBD compliant, like all car manufacturers at the time Rover didn't need to.
The discussion above is about a Sykes Pickavant ACR system....
