Hi all,

Well I got Fyco out the garage today as she's been sat for a month. When I turned the ignition to position II the fuel pump primed but the car made a strange sound and i'm not 100% sure where it came from. It sounded like a high pitched groan as the fuel pressurised. Any ideas what it could be? I'm not worried about it as the car drives great, but just curious!

Regards

Steve

It could have been a sticky relief valve. Has it done it again? FI mini's have noise injection systems because they don't insulate the plumbing for it. Also when the hoses get old and hard it doesn't help.

A concern I have is with the age of the strainer. When I replaced the pump on my 91 Chevy truck, with a similar setup to the Mini, the pump was fine but the short hose between the pump and the metal line was rotten and cracked so I could not read any pressure. The strainer was also rotten and disintegrating with chunks that could be sucked in by the pump damaging or clogging the pump. I replaced the pump, hose and strainer anyway.

Tried it again tonight, didn't make the noise. The car had rested for over a month so I'm under the impression it was just the system pressurising.
