Hi, I have a strange problem with my 1098 which is giving me a headache, I tried starting it up last week after about 6 months standing and once i got it started it was running rough, I cleaned out the carb, fitting a powerspark ignition and standard coil, still rough so I changed the HT leads and was still the same, and I've just been having a fiddle with it and found out if I pull the HT Leads off the spark plugs (so there just resting on the spark plugs) it runs fine?? also HT lead number one won't pick up my timing strobe light unless the lead is just resting on the plug 😡😡 any advice? Thanks

I know the fault was before you changed the dizzi , but are they both ballasted ? (coil & dizzi 9v)

clean HT system with dry rag with a bit of wd40 on it

I would suspect coil / cap / rotor arm / spark plug gaps / condition , clean coil nose - that sometimes cures weird problems & check LT leads / terminals are tight

by not directly connecting the lead to spark plug , you are upping the voltage a bit which can give a better spark

wide spark plug gaps can give rough running , if coil is weak

if the above fails to help , wait till dark , run engine , look for stray sparks , esp around coil nose , rotor cap , where leads close to engine

best of luck

The old coil I had was a ballasted coil but I changed it too a standard coil and altered the wiring to suit, Just ordered new dizzy cap and plugs as these are the only things that have not been changed so I'll see if that fixes it. Thanks for your help
