Ello peeps, a bit of advice is required.  Next week I am acquiring a remanufactured (as new) 1380 motor for Clubby. It has quite a high spec including a 12G940 A+ big valve cylinder head, high lift race cam shaft, Powertune pistons, Minisport 1.5 roller rockers and a 3:1 diff. Those are the essentials anyway. The question is which carb or carbs would you knowledgable types suggest using to suit the above? I want to get this one right after the disasters I had with the 7 porter which is up for sale on oilbay by the way. Thanks for reading.  :-) Attached File  1380 1.JPG   41.29K   21 downloads

A single HIF44 or twin 1 1/2s depending if you want a single or twin carbs, if you go for twins then refurbish then with new bushings and a overhaul, or you'll regret the day you saw then

I know it proves nothing but here`s the bits that (supposedly) go into it. Anyways up I am picking it up from an engine builders premises.

Also in the ad he warns of other similar types who profess to rebuild engines when they only receive scant attention, that don`t sound like a con man to me. I`ll let you all know what I think when I know a bit more from first hand.

Well you`ve started something now! I messaged our engine builder last night at bedtime and have just read his reply now I`m home from work. It`s worth reading and if/when he permits me I`ll copy it onto here for you all to read. I could almost hear the steam coming out of his ears!!   :xxx:

Ello, the man has agreed to having his comments put on here for you to read and here they are exactly as received by me:-

"this is not true my engines are not just cleaned painted up and marketed this is a ridiculous accusation this 1380 engine is exactly what is advertised on here
i have been selling engines on ebay for many years now and always recieved positive feedback from satisfied buyers otherwise i wouldnt have a 100% feedback
if you want i can sell you this engine all broken down in bits so you can build it yourself or for someone else to build it for you this way you can see all the parts and work done as proof that you are buying what is advertised
do you want to buy the engine in bits?"

I replied in the way that you`d expect and he gave me a very nice answer and the waves have now subsided and all is calm again. I`m sure that my judgement of the man`s character is not at fault and I am still looking forward to picking up my 1380 tomorrow. I`ll keep you posted of my adventures with it.

3.1 diff and a high lift race cam?

Get a hif44 and put the money you saved from the twins towards a proper fdr.

Thanks dusky, a HIF44 it is. Just one thing, what`s wrong with a 3:1 diff? I like the idea of a more leisurely gate myself. I know it`ll take the edge off acceleration but at least it won`t be screaming at today`s cruising speeds. What say you?  :highfive:

Silly question but could you keep the 7 port head and carbs the now and get the engine runnine the way it is built with hif carb then go get it rolling roaded with head it came with and then 7 port head as it only takes about 20 mins to change. That way you could see which one is best and see if the 7 port is better now?

Dependign on what cam it is ( tho, a race cam is anything higher than a 286 in my opinion) , the rev range will be too high => you'll never be able to drive it on cam when you're going at road speeds, or you'll only use 1-3 gear and 4th as an overdrive cruising gear :P

Lol, when the motor is in and is driving through me little 10 inch wheels we`ll see what happens. Either I`ll blow a raspberry at you or you can come and kick my arse for me  :P

I hope you are taking someone with you to check the engine over before you accept it.
