i also see that earlex sprayers seem popular, but has anyone used anything cheaper? i have seen a clarke one, really cheap zoom ones and terretek? they all look the same but rebranded.
i dont mind having to cut and polish it either :) t

I have had some good results using the earlex system.
I would avoid the type that are recommended exclusively for fences that have the plastic guard over the end like this one http://www.screwfix....-220-240v/11919
The better ones come with a viscosity cup so just run some paint through that following the time in the instructions so you can get the paint to a suitable thickness before spraying.
One thing worth mentioning is that they are like a hoover running in reverse so the motor kicks out quite a lot of air as it sucks which can easily kick up dust and whatnot onto the wet paint.
also the hoses can be quite cumbersome so you need to keep your wits about you while spraying so you don't knock against the wet paint with the hose.

I used a Clarke 900 watt hvlp electric spray station, and found it very easy to use once you get the right volume coming out the gun.
See the photo for the result, I only needed a flat with 2000 wet and dry and polished (machine) after that.
Very happy with the result.

cheers for that! i like the earlex system but can only really afford the 1900, no idea if it will be powerful enough? i will be spraying cellulose, seems most can handle automotive paint!.
What system do you have?
