I am looking at an RSP and all the numbers are legitimate, but the engine number is very faded and worn. Can you officially get a new number plate for the engine, or is there any other ideas???
Thanks

30 second search on fleabay found this, you would need to get the number stamped in though.

Welcome to the forum
Minimalist do replacement engine number plates correctly reverse embossed as per the originals. Also supply new scrivets to attach them.

If you google including mini forum in the search then you can find topics like this that have already been covered.

Sorry for going Off Topic here, but I've a semi-related question, just something I've never been able to get my head around in the UK.

The Engine Numbers in the UK are stamped on to these Engine Tags and then riveted to the Blocks.

So (and sorry to appear daft) what to stop an unscrupulous so-and-so from stealing an engine and re-birthing it?  Does it happen? Is it 'common'?

In Aust, out Engine Numbers have to be stamped directly on to the main part of the engine block. In the case of the A Series, this was done at the factory in the same location as the tags are riveted.

If you fronted up with a car for Registration (I think like your Tax) that doesn't have a legible engine number, the car is impounded by the Police (and usually for around 3 months, they are in no hurry!) and they X-ray the block to find the original number. If it's found not stolen, they will re-stamp the Block, but not with the original number, (and not even a Leyland / Rover sequenced number).

This can present some headaches when just trying to do a normal reconditioning process, which includes a clean up of the deck, usually it can be done without loosing the number, but sometimes,,,,,

It's rare to have anyone query an engine number in the UK on cars like these - I've never had it. VIN (vehicle ID) is really the only one that gets much attention.

Is it not a big problem if the engine number is not the original for an RSP if the VIN number is correct???
