Hi ive got a mechanical oil pressure guage, when I take the car for a reasonably long run the needle sticks around the 1/2 way mark, and wont budge until ive left the car to cool and get cold pressure figures again, it ll stay there even when the car is switched off , any ideas ?

take the valve out and have a look and clean it and the bore and maybe replace.

Could be dirt in the gauge mechanism causing it to stick.

Not a lot of use if you cannot trust it to give a honest reading, do you also have oil pressure warning light as back-up?

I agree with Carbon.  You cannot trust a gauge that is behaving like that.  Either repair or replace the gauge you have.

Maybe try bleeding the line first.

Thanks all for your suggestions, turns out there was a kink in the pipe right at the point it joined the fitting in the block, pipe replaced all sorted! Thanks
