I have t removed mine in ages but have had to move it out of the way of left shock. Once the tank is moved towards the center of the boot, getting to everything else is much easier.

To do that, first remove the large plastic fuel sender guard that is on the side of the tank. It's held on by two "firn-tree" things. Once off, you will see the fuel level sending unit with two wires going to it. Removed them. They are two different size blades so you can mix them up. With that done you just need to removed the super long bolt at the bottom, right near the lower left corner of the boot opening. That holds the tank securing strap tight. Once that is removed you can pull the tank strap out of the way and the tank is free. Remove the gas cap and then start to wiggle the tank towards the center of the boot. Once you clear the petrol neck from the body, the tank can sit in the spare tire well. Makes getting to the various pipes and connections much easier.

As for removing fuel, I'd like to know that as well. You could disconnect the line at the fuel filter (bolted to the inner left side of rear subframe) "in" side and have the fuel pour out. You will need a large catch all around the area as well as a can to fill with the fuel coming out. Due to the location of filter, there is a good chance of it going on the subframe and missing the can you have to fill, hence the large catch under it.
