HI Guys

Last week or so there is a noise coming from my driver side front wheel when driving, best way to describe it is like holding a roller skate up and spinning the wheel? im a bit of a novice mechanically but im guessing a wheel bearing problem? Any feedback would be appreciated

Cheers

Lee

Wheel bearing.

Jack it up and spin it, try and rock the wheel by holding it at 12 and 6

I thought so, problem is its my daily and cant get in garage until next week, can it cause any long standing damage if not fixed asap? only about 6 mile round trip to work so not driving far?

It could cause the wheel to lock up, it could damage the hub if the bearing spins in the hub.

Check the hub nut hasn't come loose, if it has the bearing will still need replacing, but you'll have a cause.

Could well be wheel bearing, although a bad bearing often produces a low grumbly sound, which changes with speed. Could also be dragging brakes. The sound of a brake pad scraping the disc all the time could possibly be described to be like a roller skate wheel sound. Incidentally, that stereotypicall roller skate sound is caused by cheap bearings. A good set of SKF bearings in your rollerskates and it wouldn't make any sound at all !

If you plan to keep the mini for a long time then it's worth learning to do these simple jobs yourself as it will save you a fortune.
