Hi all,

After many emails to heritage to try and obtain a heritage certificate for my 62 mk1 (they think it has an incorrect digit on the logbook) and of course the chassis plate long gone, it was suggested to run the number plate through a traders system to see what details it has. the logbook has an h instead of an a, heritage said that car was a box car, (shipped out in bits, and assembled out in South Africa) and it seemed unlikely to be my car?

Will pay of course, would really like to find some info/history on my car and get the correct vin plate made up.

Have done an hpi report, nothing comes up for plate changes if it had gone and come back I assume it would have had plates changed, but could be wrong.

cheers in advance

Jay.

A HPI report usually shows up the chassis number.

I may be able to get the chassis number. Will only be able to get what is on the DVLA database so may be the same as on your logbook

Thanks Dan, that's what I thought, I used autotrader's hpi. It came up with no chassis number, but allowed me to enter the one I have on the logbook, that in turn came back and said its correct.

I just wondered if the trade used a different system.

This is the email I got from heritage.....

I've quickly read through the past email conversation and looked at the pictures you've supplied. Unfortunately the FE number was never recorded in the Mini build records, so we cannot use it to trace a vehicle. Looking at your original order, you've quoted a chassis number AH2S7*****. The correct prefix for an Austin Mini should be A-A2S7, this is then followed by the number which identifies the individual car. From what you have quoted we can establish a chassis number of A-A2S7/*****.

Unfortunately the factory records show that Austin Mini A-A2S7***** was a CKD (complete knock down) exported from the UK in component form and assembled in South Africa. It seems very unlikely that this would be your car. Without any other numbers we can cross reference, and going on the only number you have is not correct for a UK car, we really do not have anything else to go on.

I'm not sure why they think it would be highly unlikely, ah is the prefix for South Africa and there also right hand drive.  Not sure if there's any thing left to try.

Cheers

Jay.
