Hello fellows, I am in desperate need to find a solution as I have sold the car, and it is getting picked up today via Car Transport to go 30 hours away! I went to move car last night out of garage and the Alarm went off and I thought I hit the wrong button on the key fob. Alarm stopped, but so did the power to the entire car! I currently have no power at all to anything, lights, switches, interior lights. It is as if I have no battery. Car has been perfect last 5 years, and of course the day of pickup I can't start the car. It is a 1998 Rover Sportpack with Immobilizer. The blinking red light is not turned on. I thought maybe I had to reschronize the key fob, and tried disconnecting battery for 30 minutes, and trying to sequence with no luck. My question is this, does the 4 big fuses remain hot regardless? I have to power to them. I heard there is a fusable link about 4" from the starter wrapped in the loom, but I have not had a chance to dig into it. I will be heading home in about an hour and see if I can find the fuse. When the alarm went off, it sound like maybe 10 seconds, then it stopped, just wondering if maybe there is a fuse between starter and the rest of the car, that would make sense. Anyway, any input would be most appreciated, I would really hate to delay pickup since they have been promising for a week to pick up the car. I really don't want to be stuck with it for another week trying to figure this out. Cheers.

Is the earth strap from the battery to the body warm ? if so then it sounds like there is a direct short from the main power cable to the body.

So I think it's a duff battery, measures 12.6 at the battery, and at the front without fuses plugged in. As soon as I put number 1 fuse in it would drop to 1v. So I hooked up a 2nd battery that was crap, same deal, read 12.4 but would drop. Now I am getting power, and the alarm does it's thing as well as everything else. It is now cranking slowly, and then clicking at the starter solineod. Battery is 3 years old, car has only done 1500 miles in 5 years. It has been in the low 30's last few days. I am hoping it is down to just not having any cranking amps left even though reading over 12v.
