Hi everyone,

Awfully sorry to post such a basic question - it appears that I cannot seem to undertake the simplest of projects without resorting to the forum for guidance.

I have just removed the alternator with the intention of cleaning it and replacing it.  No problem in its removal however when attempting to strip it down I cannot remove the pulley wheel.

Could somebody please reassure me and tell me that's its just very, very tight or is there something else??

I am buckling the fins on the alternator fan wheel due to the pressure exerted on the retaining nut but still it wont budge.

Before I continue my quest please tell me that at least I am going the right way and its not an opposite thread or anything stupid.

Have consulted Haynes (obviously0 but with no success.

I just don't want this to end up like previous project and just put the dam thing back on the engine and forget it.

Any help would be genuinely appreciated.

Regards

Pawper,

Is the problem getting the nut loose which holds the pulley on, or getting the pulley off when nut has been removed?

The nuts can be tight. Two options for loosening off pulley nut:

- use old fan belt wrapped round pulley and clamped in vice to hold pulley when undoing nut with ring spanner or socket.

- if you have access to air gun this might also help to get it off

Once pulley nut is removed the pulley should come off OK, it sometimes needs a little persuasion with a medium sized Birmingham screwdriver.
