Been looking at stage 3 heads for my 1275 cooper spi and found one on eBay. Followed the links to jonspeed.
Anyone dealt with them before or know wether this will get me the extra bit of power I'm after?

Doesn't seem much money for a better flowing head.

There's nothing in the link that says that's a stage 3/gas flowed head.

They got very bad publicity on the BBC's 'The Sherrifs Are Coming'

The original 'Jon' of Jonspeed' who started the business was/is a great guy, but he sold the business some years ago.

Hi all.
I've looked and your right it's not stage 3. I don't think the sherries coming would have put me off using the company but there selling what I'm after anyway.
Thanks for the replies.

Out of all the reputable firms doing reworked heads, why would you chose one with a reputation that's managed to get them on national TV???????????????

I can't fault them.

Used them a fair bit before that show and still do now because they've been nothing but spot on for me and dad

If someone was on rogue traders that s different thing, but if one time a company owed some money and it went to bailiffs then I wouldn't hold that against them. In s different part of the country it would have been a different company and there would have been no TV.
I once had bailiffs on my door for not paying a parking fine. Does that mean I shouldn't be allowed an eBay account?

My point is I don't know the company as I don't know many others, but I wouldn't let one thing stop me using someone. Every company has done something wrong at some point, very possibly accidentally, and if you look hard enough you will find it.
This said jonspeed might be awful which was my original question and if other people had bad experiences I wouldn't use them anyway but I would decide that from people I trust on this forum and not from a TV programme.

As an extra comment I've messaged turbo phill anyway as everyone highly recommends him.

I've got a turbophill head, and the whole ordering process just felt like he knew what he was talking about and wanted to build something to my specification not just a stage something off the shelf item.

AC Dodd is another good option

I bought a 1380cc engine and gearbox off them a few years ago after meeting them at malvern
Mini show, I've done about a dozen night road rallies with it and drive it regularly about ,its
Bomb proof, tidy boys I found. I'd ignore programms like that, very one sided.

I had a cylinder head done by jonspeed last year and they did a really nice job. Car ran beautifully.
Only gripe was the paint flaked and rusted very quickly. But a quick wire brush and repaint sorted that. I'd definitely go back, but just wouldn't take them up on the painting offer.

In contrast I went to a very reputable mini engine specialist with a short motor with a spun big end for them to assess and repair. I was expecting a short motor back and got a box of bits! Very dissapointed!

Definitely, in fact, anyone who's been in business will have done something wrong or in error at some point. We are all only human and we all make mistakes.

I think most of us know and accept that.

However,,,,,

It's how these 'errors' are dealt with that the true colours start to show. Some will genuinely show they are there to offer a proper 'old fashioned style' service, others will show they are only there for the money.
