So today I picked up another project >_<, I wasn't planning on getting another (or 2 :whistling:) mini anytime soon but when one comes up near by and a bit different, I thought I'd better get it. I heard about it through a guy at work so went and had a look over it a couple of weeks back and left an offer which he said he would think about it.

It has been sat out side since 2007 due to it failing the MOT on a rusty rear subframe, ball joints, bearings...... It was first bought in the Birmingham area I think where it must have been stored and not driven, so when it came down to cornwall in 2000 for it's first MOT it only had 139 miles on it. The previous owner then drove it up until 2007 with 32000 miles on the clock and has not moved until today.

So Last Friday (day before my 20th birthday) I managed to get hold of him again and we struck a deal and arranged to pick it up today but had to go and take the callipers off the front as they were stuck on. The backs were ok as they left the handbrake off but the bracket in the middle of the subframe had rusted off. So we bodged it with some wire, and later used a ratchet strap to tighten it up so we had some brakes.

So today we went to collect it, Blew up the tires again to get it rolling and rolled it onto the trailer.

And finally in somewhere dry, So the rest of the day was spent checking it over and ripping out the carpets as they were a bit wet. We also tried turning the engine over but wouldn't budge . We also drained out all the old fuel probably about 7 litres :X

Vacuumed the carpets which they come up quite well for a once over.

And tucked away with the ritz.

Not much will happen with it for a while as I need to get  my other project on the road, but my plans are to keep it all original as all the bits are there and still original, I'm planning on getting some 12" steels for it as the RSP wheels don't hold air for very long.

Cheers guys, It's not really really bad but has all the usual areas to replace, Inner and outer sill's, floors, wings, front panel, scuttle, a-panels may replace the lower half of the rear panel, Battery box, door surround for the passenger side and door step for drivers, door skins... Other than that it looks good  Just the rear subframe is shot which probably means the heelboard is too.

I've not really had much interest in them, I got a poster of a red one going down steps on the garage door which I've had for a while so it was made to be

Nice  ;D

Cheers, Yeah I don't think it's had any repairs done on it so no hidden surprises.

REALLY!, I wouldn't have bought it if I knew that ;D

I picked up a new set of wheels for it today, pressure washed them and fitted them. They seem to hold air quite well, better than the alloys and won't have to worry about damaging them.

DSCF0047_zpsvzjaqfwp.jpg

DSCF0046_zpsmytsdwyd.jpg

Then we thought we'd try turning it over again by sticking it in gear and pushing it but wouldn't go, When we looked through the plug holes we could see a clean valve sticking down so didn't think it was seized. We thought it could be the water pump stopping t so tried turning the fan belt which wouldn't budge. Cut it and found that it was seized to the three pulleys.

Alternator pulley properly stuck

DSCF0037_zpshurng18s.jpg

DSCF0041_zps3gntwyj9.jpg

So stuck it back into second and it rolled :gimme: and pumped out the oil we put in the cylinders . I think it will start up fairly easily with a quick clean/check of the carb, fresh fuel, oil and water, but that will have to wait till the other ones on the road.
