Which side of the timing cover oil seal (88G561) faces forward (toward the pulley)?

 

Does the engine rotate CCW when viewed from the rear?

the side you see now faces away from the engine.

Spring always goes to higher pressure side.

Thanks gents.  That infers that the engine rotates CCW, which I understand is the standard for British-manufactured engines.

If you look at it from the rear yes ... Makes more sense to look from the front. Rad end.

One reason modern engines may appear to rotate the wrong way is the gearbox end is actually the front or cylinder one.
