Grinding Wheel Studs Back

Im having problems with wheels studs and thinking of grinding back the clearance a bit to tap more thread so they do up. Where I've got 10 x 6 mambas and superfins on the back and converted the front to disks I've got the longest studs and middle studs but I need the I between sizes ideally. Has anyone successfully grounded back and tapped more thread safely? It's only 7mm more thread and grinding back 1- 1.5 mm of girth.
Thoughts?

You will not be cutting thread in the studs.

What is the actual problem?

HT Studs like these are made (or should be) by a rolled thread method, they are not cut. I would not recommend making the threads longer by cutting them. Threads made by cutting (eg a Die) make the parent material weaker.

True there is that. But to be honest it just sounds like you have the wrong studs. Never had to do anything to the studs I fitted when I ran the same wheels.

Not sure exactly which studs, nuts, wheels you mean. Assuming they are tube nuts, you'd very likely be better off drilling the threads out of the nuts and trimming the stud ends if needed. That is if you'll be left with as much thread engagement as a conventional wheel nut. See how much thread engagement there is with the next shorter stud first.

Cheers guys, I've had two other people say about how messing with the wheel studs can weaken them so in the thought of safety I'll wait till the right nuts arrive.
