Thanks Timmy 850,  I'm hoping that it will be a good choice of engine for my mk 1 once rebuilt, !

If there is still aluminium engine tag fitted to top face of block this will tell you more.

Does the cylinder head look original / same age as engine block? Also with the 11 studs was this 10 studs plus a bolt? And have a look at the timing chain backplate and see if this is different to the one fitted to your Mk1 mini.

If it's in decent condition could be a very good motor.

Hi carbon, the engine had a 9 stud head fitted to it when I got it and the engine plate is missing , its had a number stamped into that face, my thought that this was probably done  by an engine builder, I cant comment on the timing chain backplate because I don't have another engine to compare it to at the moment, I've  also noticed that its got a center main bearing strap fitted and this seems to have the same number stamped into it as the one on the block were the aluminium plate was once fitted .its still on standard size pistons  and I have yet to measure the bores but would say theres a 2-3 thou step in the top of the cylinder so will probably get it re- bored .
