Hi all,

Just a quick question- is the mini engine block level? As in if I remove the head and the car is on a known level ground, is the top of the mini block level, both longitudinal and transverse (parallel to the ground)?

I need some reference points and was wondering if this i a way I can use for a datum. Or is there some point of the front subframe that is parallel to the ground? Hope someone can help,

Cheers,

Lee

Very unlikely, it is mounted on rubber engine mounts so it can't be relied on being level.

And also the height can change as the engine mounts age.

In general terms the top of the block should be level in both directions, but may not be in practice for the reasons given above.

Top mounts of the front subframe should also level side to side. There are some other pointers on subframe alignment in the old BMC factory workshop manual Section R.

Why do you need a level reference/datum?

You can get an adjustable dog bone,,,,this would allow slight tilting of the block if need be.
