this may have been discussed before but i am wanting to know that if i was to buy some 25mm x 25mm x 3mm steel box section and made some brackets to weld on to the box section out of 3mm thick sheet, then used some more 3mm thick sheet to make strengthening plates to attack to the tunnel and the inner sill would this be ok and strong enough.

just wanting to know as its cheaper to buy all the steel and make it my self than to buy a ready designed weld in seat mount.

cheers James

If you buy a ready made one then you are limited to where the seat goes.

Do it your self and you only have yourself to blame if it is not right.

I know what I would do.

hahaha, then i shall do it my self and make a ******* up of it. i was looking at the race safety accessories one on demon tweeks and thought i could make that for less and still have material left over for when it goes wrong.

the race safety accessories one is £48 would have to buy two and if i messed it up buy another one.

square tube is £13 for 3m and then buy a 1.2m x 1.2m sheet of steel all comes to £80 delivered so i should be ok

thanks for your reply

I made my own mounts the same as the kits you can buy. If i'm honest after all the time spent doing it I'd have been better off buying the kits.

I wasn't going to make it exactly like the kits as I was just going to slot the hole and then just struggle to get the nut on.

I really appreciate the pictures lets me see how it can be done and where abouts and how close the bars are together.

But that all depends on what mounts you have.

I haven't got the mounts or seats yet. But I'm going to be using either sparco Sprint seats or cobra Monaco pro. So would be using the universal side mounts like in the picture above

Just don't get welding anything up till you have the seats & frames then. Mine took a lot of jigging around to get the seats in the right place, there's not much adjustment on the side mounts at all.

Also don't go off where mine are welded, my seats sit real far back as they're wide at the top so need to be behind the b pillar.

Cheers Nick I won't be doing it till I have at least one seat. I need to sort out the pedal box position as I'm not using the standard box. I really appreciate the pictures makes me understand how they would fit. Mine will more than likely be in front of the seat belt hole
