1 Mini Mayfair 1990 that has lost it's hazzards.I was under the bonnet doing something else and sparked the terminals of the hazard unit,so I purchased another one the same as was in there and working before 12v 21w 4 (1h) but this has not worked. indicators work ok.
2 Mini van 1980 Lost the indicators and hazards. For some reason these do not cancel in use so i forget to turn them off, they were working on the journey but stopped for some reason.I cannot find the flasher unit anywhere under the dash???????? The hazard unit under the bonnet is a lucas 9fl 12v 35053b rectangular unit.
Any help greatfully received.

4 fuse box on the bulkhead:
1 1-2 35amp Brake Lights, Reverse Lights, Direction Indicators & Rear Screen Demister.
2 3-4 25amp Horn, Headlamp Flasher, Brake Failure Circuit & Radio Memory.
3 5-6 25amp Heated Blower Motor, Windscreen Wipers, Washer Motor & Instruments.
4 7-8 15amp Side & Tail Lights, Panel Lights & Instruments.
1-2 These circuits only operate with the ignition switch at position "II".
5-6 These circuits only operate with the ignition switch at position "I" or "II".
I compared the above with my own handbook relating to my 1990 mainstream Rover Mini Cooper 1.3 and the latest Haynes manual which covers all Mini models of 1969-2000 vintage and the only thing I could find confusion with was in the Haynes manual it states that on later models fitted with the 4 fuse box (probably relating to injection models?) both 1-2 & 7-8 circuits operate the headlight dim-dip relay, surely a mistake?
Ok now the 4 In-Line Fuses, luckily the wire colours are highlighted in my own manual (they aren't in the Haynes) and they should also relate to yours too? But I doubt you'd have the 15amp - Blue/Red Wire for the Auxiliary Cooling Fan as that only got fitted to Mini Coopers and all models from 1992 onwards?
15amp - Purple/Orange Wire
Hazard Warning & Interior Lamps
15amp - Brown/Orange Wire
Dim-Dip Lighting
10amp - Blue/Orange Wire
Rear Fog Guard Lamps
15amp - Blue/Red Wire
Auxiliary Cooling Fan (If fitted)
Hope that helps.

I've checked for voltages, continuities etc and got nowhere..... There's also a fault with the fog lamp supply - could this be linked? I've got nowhere with solving that either! I got it working once, but have no idea what I did and it was only a fleeting triumph :'(
Any help greatfully received!

1 is under the bonnet on the bulkhead, check teh connections on this as the plug which the flasher sits in does get corroded, you can test the cuircit, by placing a wire with 2 male terminals on it into the moulded plug, this will put your lights on but they wont flash.
2 is behind the dash unit, you need to get your hand up, its on the rh bracket which mounts the dials.

Still no clues as to what the spare green/brown wire is for - I've found a spare black and white wire as well now......
Some muppet has also taken a feed for a radio from the 12V into the hazard switch, pulling the wire out of the multiplug in the process. Fixed this but still no Volts! The circuit diagram shows an inline fuse for the hazards (which also protects the interior light, which is also not working) - is this fuse also on the bulkhead?
I'm actually quite good with electrical stuff, but I haven't got the info (the haynes manual for the Mini is one of the worst I've seen!) to start looking...
Thanks again

As for the van I still can't find the flasher under the dash. I picked up a s/hand hazard today at WSMOC show because I broke it taking it out.Strange thing is it has a rouge Green/Orange ? wire coming out the back and floating on its own up the stearing column.Should'nt this go to the flasher unit?

the in line fuse is on the bulk head, you might need to remove the air filter housing to get to the fuse holder, its a white plastic type.
i think there are two of these fuse holders( too wet to go outside and check for now) one is for the rear fog light, so check them both, also check the earth for the fog light, its on the light.

the reason your indicators aren't cancelling out could depend on if the steering wheel or boss for the steering wheel have been changed, the boss for the steering wheel has a notch which cancelles the ind on the stalk, when the wheel is turned in the opasite direction to the way you are turning.
what other wires are connected to the switch, and in what positions?

the Steering wheel has been changed to a 10" montery so I guess that is the problem there. Should the boss still cancel it though?

I had to move the whole switch assembly up the steering column so they engage.

Found the hazard flasher - BIG rusty mess there, so hopefully that's the problem.
The annoying thing about the fog is that it worked briefly and now doesn't; the problem is in the cabin because I did something in there to get it working and then did something else to bugger it up again while trying to sort the hazard circuit....
At least the indicator flasher is back where it belongs!

Check the 2 black multi connectors under the column. mine was like that b4 the last mot 4 times i went back.it worked on the way there but when it hit the ramp it stopped.Anyway one of the pins was alll corroded.I had a spare indicator switch assy so changed it then it worked.

The feed to the hazard flasher was completely knackered where it runs behind the air filter - it had been repaired before (badly) and fell apart when I touched it. Works now but REALLY fast!! Suggests to me that theres a high load somewhere (probably a bad earth on one of the indicators).
Fog lamp was a combination of a broken lead on the in line fuse and corrosion on the fuse itself.
As a background, the car has been standing for about 20 months. Still starts and runs though.
Thanks for the assists!
