I recently purchased a central locking kit and alarm interface from Minispares. I've fitted the central locking, which now works great after a few minor adjustments, but I'm having issues with the remote locking. I can lock the car fine with the remote, but it will not unlock.

When I press the unlock button on the remote I can hear what sounds like a relay somewhere in the alarm module, so I know that is responding. Also, I get a pulse on both of the signal wires to the central locking kit at the alarm connector when I press their corresponding button on the remote. When I test the other end of the interface kit, I don't seem to get anything on the multimeter (even though I know the lock signal is getting through). I'm guessing after the control board on the interface the pulse is to short to register, making it difficult to trace the problem.

Does anybody have any ideas of things I can do to track the issue, or does it sound like a duff interface kit?

Sounds strange.

First thing is do is try it manually...
Does The wiring for the central locking go to a little control box first, then go off to the remote interface?

It works properly from the internal lock levers, and from the passenger side key, but will only unlock from the drivers key (minor adjustment of the mechanism needed to fix this as I did get it to work before I changed the lock barrels).

The central locking kit doors go to a black control box, and the interface kit has two pins to add the the alarm ecu connector. This goes to a small 2x1cm pcb which then has an earth and two signal wires that connect to two bullet connectors on the central locking loom.

I get a pulse on both wires on the alarm side of the pcb, but can't measure anything at the bullet connectors, even though I know the lock signal is working.

As everything else works (to some extent), I'm pretty sure the problem is either the black control box or the alarm interface, but struggling to pinpoint the exact problem.

For anyone having this problem, it seems the manufacturers of the interface kit aren't too hot on quality control. When I was trying to remove the interface kit to send it back, one of the bullet connectors came off. Turns out they hadn't bothered to strip back the wire when crimping the bullet connector on.

Now I've fitted a new connector it all works properly :-D

Would need to contact Minispares about this I reckon, I'm sure they will sort it out for other buyers...

Glad you got it working though :)

Hi there,

Glad you got it sorted, there's so much stuff around these days that can be fixed by opening them up and checking for bad connections etc. etc.

Simple question for you, did you manage to drill hole in doors without taking them off, I fitted the remote kit about 3 years ago and it works OK, but only with wiring temporary connected.

Mine is on MPI with crash bars in the doors so first problem is finding the right spot.

Cheers

Yeah, I managed to drill the holes without removing the doors, but as others have said in other threads, it probably is easier to do it after taking them off.

I can't remember exactly where I drilled in relation to the crash bars or door hinges etc, but can get some pics at the weekend when I'm home in daylight if that would help you? If you do go for it, I'd recommend using a decent 240V drill - despite being reasonably oomphy, my cordless struggled a bit - and having a dremel or something to tidy things up.

Thanks for coming back, would be good to see pics if you get time.

I'll have another look soon and see if I can get in there, waiting for warmer weather to be honest.

If I wait long enough the doors will need repairing anyway.
