As the title suggests, we had a 1.4 K Series 03 MG ZR come into the workshop with what the lad was told a water pump failure, with what was described, loss of coolant all the while and overheating, it didnt take long to diagnose as per usual a head gasket problem.

We were told it was running a bit lumpy upon it reaching us and once we had the head off we quickly diagnosed with 2 bent inlet valves.

I've only got photos unfortunately of the head being stripped as forgot to take the camera to the workshop and had no battery on my phone to take photos on that.  We took the head home as the lad needed the car back as soon as possible so we stripped it last night much to the wifes displeasure on the dining room table ready for a skim today.

We have received the head back from the engine guys we use and are now in the process of rebuilding it.

The work in total will be, new inlet valves, head skim, new valve stem oil seals, new headgasket, thermostat, water pump, cambelt and all other gaskets that came in the kit.

The last 2 pictures show the old stem oil seals and the bent valves.  As you may be able to see, they both bend outwards, we don't know what the cause of this was but have an idea of it may have been someone trying to do the job before as it looked as though the inlet side was out by 2 teeth on the cam but we believed that this would possibly cause the rest to be bent.

Anyway, we thought it may be best to put on the Rover part of the group due to the amount that have the K series engines in.
