With respect to assembly to the radius arm, what is the correct orientation of the handbrake quadrant?

Thanks.

I think it's the bottom as well, looking at my pictures and this one.

It is on the bottom.  My question is related to the angular orientation.  Note the ends of the quadrant are not symmetrical, one end is straight and the other is rounded, and it can be installed two ways.  I'd like to know which is correct.

I've found an obscure diagram in my Rover manual, page 70-12.  It shows the pointed end of the quadrant pointed to the rear wheel and the rounded end pointed to the center of the car (i.e., following the cable routing to the front of the car).  When installed thusly, it is apparent that there is a cutout in the quadrant to clear the radius arm trumpet front socket.

Yes, I agree with you.  The cutout you're referring to is the notch for the cable knuckle.  The cutout I referred to is the overall shape of the quadrant, which is shaped to clear the radius arm trumpet socket.

Rounded end to the front of the cable. Squareish end towards the drum.

Yes, that is consistent with my research.  I imagine that many of these get installed reversed.  The original design should have been fool-proofed to ensure correct assembly.
