I have just completed a top end service on my 1986 Mayfair. I have a new gasket set. Is it necessary to use gasket sealant as well? Many thanks

Won't do any harm, obviously don't use it on the HG if you're replacing that

Head Gasket - No

Thermostat housing - Yes (well....I do....some may say different)

Exhaust Manifold gasket - Nope

Rocker cover cork gasket - Yes 

Carb sandwich gaskets - some do, some don't......I use a very very light smear but it is probably unnecessary and is just a pain to clean in all honesty .

Water heater tap (if fitted) - Yes
