2ncd gear grinded when downshifting from 3rd to 2ncd. Took the motor out, neatly disassembled the motor and tranny, then replaced 4 bulk syncro rinngs, put it back together catefully and the tranny seems hard to spin freely even in neutral, also i cannot get into 2ncd gear at all. Even When car is running or not, i havent drove the car yet due to crappy weather Every other gear works including reverse. Also when started in neutral the car feels like it wants to move forward the slightest bit. Weird. Mayb i put the gear box back together wrong. Any ideas
Thanks derek

Is the clutch dragging a bit? Not disengaging properly?

Found the issue hahah. The gear selection linkage with rubbing against a tab and pin https://flic.kr/p/BEMdpc

Unfortunately after replacing the syncroa. Down shifting from 3rd to 2ncd gear still grinds!!!!

Any ideas?? Do i need a new 2ncd gear?

Could be that the 2nd gear synchro cone is badly worn. You should have checked that the baulk ring gripped the gear before assembly.

Did you replace the Synchro Hub Springs at the time of the rebuild?

The bulk ring on the hub before disassemble was approximately 1mm gap, with the new bulk ring theres a 3 mm gap and grips pretty good, it didnt look warn out. I just replced the rings that is it. But mayb it is the cone, idk what else it could be.

What do you mean by "dragging" im a little confused.

Its a verto clutch

Shifting UP 1sr gear through 4gear shifts perfectly

Shifting DOWN 4th gear to 3rd is smooth, 3rd to 2ncd grinds. 2ncd to 1st is smooth as well as reverse.

By dragging I mean that it does not fully disengage. You can usually tell when it is dragging when you shift to reverse, however you could check by getting the front wheels in the air - with the car in gear hold down the clutch and see if the wheels turn.
