Good day,  I just bought a Mini Cooper S,  The badges says cooper S Mk11 but how do I know its not a Mk3.

Vin nr on Papers:         YAD111 0219A

ENG NR ON PAPERS:  12H 3971319

VIN NR ON CAR:  XAD1 - 11219A

ENG NR IN CAR: 10H 403E-H3620

What is the correct engine for this car?

Thank you

Welcome  =]

Have you got any pictures? Engine numbers don't point to Cooper S. Body numbers don't seem to either.

Your fitted engine number indicates it being a 1098 engine if i'm not mistaken

Welcome :) wouldn't a 10H motor be an 1100 SA big block?

Use the img codes from photobucket to upload photos. You can also use flickr.

These are the photos of Danie's car:

It has twin tanks and a Mk2 S badge at the back, but we didn't get the Mk3 S (with internal door hinges in SA) which makes it more interesting.

Looks to have been a car built it up using some 'S' parts, like the second tank, badge and front bumper. Possibly even the braking setup.

Oh wow! Then it might be a mk3 S. It would be worth getting some pictures of the interior, engine and engine bay. They might provide some insight on the car.

The body number prefix won't help much. The round nose cars all used XAD1 by that stage, while Clubman cars used XAD2. The engine number in this denotes a 1098cc motor. Also, looking at the car, the reflectors and front turn signals all point to being a South African car.

Definitely a mk3 shell, 70 - 75 ish by the looks. If it has a hole in the rear seat then its an early one, but i doubt its a real S unless it says so on the logbook.

If it was a UK car, maybe the Mini Cooper Register know of it via a previous owner? http://minicooper.org
