So I've got a 1991 mini cooper carb. Im wanting to change the exhaust system, something stupidly noisy as i don't drive her much, she's doesn't have a radio so was thinking get a noisy exhaust instead. She's got a stage 1 exhaust kit on at the moment, was thinking of taking off the center pipe which has two silencers and the backbox and putting a straight through pipe then maybe just putting an exhaust tip on the end. Has anyone done this before, any problems? I know that the police are going to hate it, but i live in a very rural area so it shouldn't be a problem, also i dont drive her often as I'm at university.

Has anyone got a videos of something similar or picture maybe?

My mini is the silver one.

You're quite right, the police will hate it, possibly fine you, possibly force the car off road until it's rectified.

Why??? It will sound crap and i would imagine run like a dog.

Just fit a single box system, that should be loud enough (and still legal)

You need a back box to keep manifold pressure and keep the noise down. It will drive like crap as well.

Go for a large bore single box system.

Some single box system will ensure you have a roadside chat with a not very accomodating policeman. An RC40 rear box only is pretty raucous and they are the quietest system.

Straight pipe? Google the Swiftune Longman Rep 1275GT at Goodwood this year.

I've done this before, by all means try it out yourself (It's a bit of a laugh).

While I was waiting for my mid box to arrive, I just put a straight piece of exhaust pipe onto the manifold. I started it up, revved it a few times but daren't drive it because I probably would have gotten an ASBO. It was that loud!  It didn't sound good at all either, lost all of that 'mini rasp'

Have a listen to the exhaust set up I made for my mates track mini, it's just using the mid silencer from a twin box RC40.

I have a large bore single box system on both my Minis....

My 998 has:: 2 inch manifold and link pipe onto a 3 inch piped back box

My 1275 has::
1.75 inch manifold
1.75 inch to 2.25 inch Y piece
2.25 inch to 3 inch link pipe
3 inch piped back box

By the way the 998 is louder ;)

I will be buying a by pass valve soon and adding that to my exhaust, but I have a turbo so that makes the exhaust quieter anyway, but I will have a straight pipe and a silenced exhaust at a flick of a switch haha

I can vouch for this exhaust, sounds awesome.

If not you could fit a dtm style exhaust they're anti social.
