hi all
basically iv had my engine out of my mini to cure lots of little problems in one go, anyhow iv put the engine back in and no matter how many times i put the inlet and exhaust manifold onto the cylinder head something isnt quite sealed.
the engine will tick over fine but when u put the engine under pressure i.e. driving up a hill you can hear the air being blown from somewhere.
i have leak tested everything and no leaks appear to be present so now im a bit stuck...
before the engine was removed the problem was also there but nowhere near as bad, now its just a joke and obviously iv replaced the gasket..
any ideas??????

Exhaust blowy out?
or
Inlet sucky in?

By leak tested, do you mean sprayed carb cleaner or something non-harmful to engine and non-flamable around the manifolds and listened/checked for a change in the engine revs?

Or have you recently fitted a K&N induction kit?

its kinda hard to tell basically a loud hissing some description.. yes i have a k&n fitted but have had so for months and its never been a problem as yes they can create a sucking sound when u have a poor vacuum a do belive as the idle is compensated or something like that.

no, we use a leak detection fluid at work which u just spray onto where needed and any leaks will appear as the fluid bubbbles up, same knida affect as using washing up liquid a bit of water and a paintbrush.
this was only used on the exhaust though due to the inlet manifold sucking in.
is there any ways of checking if the inlet manifold is leaking????

i think if it was the inlet it would be running like a bag of nails and stall lots?
only because on the g'f mini her inlet was leaking and it was running on 3 cylinders..

If it was anywhere on the inlet it wouldnt run properly, the idle wouldnt be constant so we can rule that out.
This leaves the exhaust, which you say you have leak tested, so lets rule that out.
Now, we have the normal 'hissing' noise that mine makes with the K&N on - but you said it wasnt that..I must say it does sound like it is blowing air out....
How about the vacuum pipes or the fan (got any holes in it?) or how about the brake servo is leaking air ?
