I have been referred here by other forums for detailed information on the SPI Minis.

Background:

I am working on a Mini of unknown original year.  It is equipped with the SPI engine.  It has had extensive body restoration (whole new front end) and a number of the original SPI mounting brackets were not on the replacement panels, so things are a bit hodge-podge in the engine bay.  It has also been converted from RHD to LHD - brake servo removed, pedal boxes were swapped over and the accellerator pedal shows signs of being re-welded/modified for LDH use.

Issue:

The car is experiencing significant stumbling/hesitation revving from idle.  Once revved, it seems to run fine and pulls strong and smooth.

So far:

I have found the throttle cable has too much slack and the throttle linkage needs minor adjustment.  There is also no "throttle pedal switch" present.  I have figured out I will likely have to do some additional shaping of the pedal arm to be able to take out the extra slack without putting the pedal up practically against the bottom of the brake pedal.

I am also trying to determine if I need to add the "throttle pedal switch".  Here is what I know of the ECU present in the car (have not tried to release the harness to examine the connector).

The ECU details:
VM REf #: AJ
OEM #: MNE 101150
Type: MEMS SPI 1.6

Does this ECU require the "throttle pedal switch"?

Thanks,

M. Playle

Welcome to the forum. From your ECU info it is a single connector ECU for a non Cooper Mini with a matched alarm/immobiliser. It is not supposed to have the throttle pedal switch.

Read this thread on how to adjust the throttle cable and about replacing the vacuum lines that are probably causing the idle issues. I have found found at Advanced Auto Parts some plastic elbows and fitting that seem to fit the vacuum lines.

Thank you for confirming whether the ECU needed the throttle pedal switch.  It is good to know it does not - one less thing to sort out.

I had already bookmarked the other thread for reading through as well.

Hi, my ECU has the numbers (still readable) MNE10089 ? . And my SPI is built in 1993 and was named in Germany  "TBI"

It is a 1.3 SPI with 53 DIN PS.
Cyilnder head says :  12 A/2DF75.   Engine Block says:  WFM1024 NW.

Maybe that let you comme somewhat next to the yer of your car.
