Hello

Just wondering what you guys recommend for improving the rockers on a MK2 Cooper S

I am in Australia and have been told the Cooper S rockers have the lowest ratio out of all the Minis

So i was looking at either doing offset bushes or buying 1.5/1 ratio set ups

I was looking at these from Jonsport

What do you guy recommend

A lot of old rubbish has been written about high lift rockers.

On a short duration Cam - 1.5 ratio rockers will work. If your cooper S is running the original OEM profile, it will be ideal. If you aren't bothered about originality, then the roller tip items will reduce valve guide side loads and guide wear (ensure the rockers are correctly centralised). My road car did 80K miles happily on a set.

If you want something that isn't obviously an update (insurance companies in Oz I'm told are strict) then Keith Calver has some 1.4 ratio non roller tip items that are very discrete (Google Calver ST).

Do you mean Jonspeed? I think there are a few threads on that company ... might be worth reading as you are so far away you don't want to make a mistake ...

The Calver ST 1.4s are solid, no roller tip.

The 1.4s do have a very carefully radiussed tip to help prevent sideloading of the valve.

Given the choice between managed wear and the liklihood of an ovalised roller tip, I've fitted the 1.4s.

I should probably say I've not used Jonspeed apart from a braided oil feed hose off fleabay from them and that looks fine but is untested as yet. What I have seen is a lot of threads where they are mentioned and the feedback varies ...

But having something shipped to Aus rather than the UK would just cause me a worry or two especially if it proved to be a problem ..

If you fit the offset bushes into forged Cooper S rockers you can get about 8mm valve lift with standard lift cam. This is about 1:1.25 ratio and in my experience gives much better results than standard A+ rockers.

But with offset bushes you also really need to use different rocker pillars to get the rocker pads correctly positioned over the valves.
