Hi fellas,

I rebuit my now 1293cc metro engine and got it in the car and running but i have an oil leak on the nearside of the engine casing. Im pretty sure its not coming from the timing cover or the pulley seal and that only leaves the crank seal - the half moon one.

Are these notoriously difficult to get to seal? (it was a new one i put in when rebuilding the engine)

And is there any way to re seat it without taking the engine out and splitting the clutch housing off and dropping the gearbox?

Im well hacked off because its running well and pulling like a train!

On another topic.........

The rear brakes are locking up well befor the fronts - well i cant get the fronts to lock at all, even when reversing.

Could this point to a duff pressure reducing valve on the subframe?

Thanks
Se7

you hav't by anychance fitted a new duplex timing chain and had to modify your cover i did and twisted to cover butchering it off its all straight now BUT it was causing the seal to push on one side of the pully and not the other it flicked oil all over the place as it was leaking on the pully it could also be the speedo drive gasket or lack of

hope you get it sorted

Hi Lee,

Its the original timing gear and there were no clearance issues with the cover.

The underside of the cover derectly below the pulley is bone dry so its not coming from there.

I have removed and replaced the speedo drive cover and gasket and no signs of it coming from there either.

If your car has an FAM7821 valve fitted and it's fitted the wrong way round then this can happen. It should be fitted with the large cylinder sticking out the end of the valve pointing towards the wing and the fixing bolt at the top of the casting.

Or the front brakes could be knackered!

Dan,

Front brake callipers are new as are all flexies and the master cylinder and pipework.

It has got this Posted Image type of valve fitted mounted to the front of the rear subframe. Its running a single mastercylinder too.

Hi,

I have blocked off the rear brakes at the bulhead T piece using a bleed nipple and then bled the fronts untill i had a good pedal and left it overnight and it was still good so the problem is definately with the rear circuit.

Cheers
