Waterpump Help!

Best Answer alex-95 , 17 December 2015 - 03:08 PM

The new thing you bought is the water pump and the leaking part is thermostat and housing. the water pump it where the fan is attached to. You probably only need new gaskets and a thermostat (couple of quid) . or you can test the old thermostat by placing it in a pan and heating it and see what temperature it opens.

I have a horrible feeling that I'm looking at the wrong part of the engine here , but I think (with help from tmf) that my waterpump is leaking so I removed it and ordered a new one.

Problem is the new apparently very fancy one from minispares looks nothing like my old one!! What have I missed?

I seem to be getting stuck every time I touch the car at the moment.

Pictures attached with old and new , and where I took the old one from. Sorry if this is blindingly obvious.

Chris

that is your thermostat housing and thermostat you have removed.

I would suggest reading your Haynes manual.

Oh jeez!

Your old one is the thermostat housing, the waterpump is below that on the side of the block.
My thought was you need to remove the radiator, but i may be wrong. The fan is attached to the waterpump.

No need to get a new housing, unless it's cracked or you're getting a DSN retro billet type ;D. Just the gaskets and actual thermostat, the bit in the lower part of the housing. a local motor factors should have them, just see what temperature thermostat you have currently.

and if you are thinking of changing the water pump have a read of your Haynes as it is not that quick of a job as the rad needs to come out etc.

No rad removal as this appears to be an MPi with the front radiator.

Still a number of things to remove, replace and adjust.
